I found and lost a black and white photo of myself at around ten years of age sitting in the gnarled roots of a tree (imagine a young Ed Weston) with a Kodak Brownie camera around my neck. Since at least then, I have been a photographer.
After military service I worked in the photo industry as a sales rep for Fuji film and other manufacturers. In 1982 I left my well paid sales job to work as a newspaper photojournalist for the Lompoc Record in California. My experience there and later at the Santa Barbara News-Press made me the photographer I am today. I moved to Hawaii in 1987 working as a wedding and portrait photographer. I still do that today with my company Nick Galante Photography.
For 15 years I worked with photographic and optical systems for the Pacific Missile Range on Kauai.
I live with my wife Amy and daughters Maya and Midori in Koloa town on the south side of Kauai. We share our home with three zen masters – Tiger, Sparky and Tinker.
My favorite pastimes are bodysurfing and working on my aquaponics system.
